The work is dominated by a deep blue color which, depending on the light in the room, tends toward blue-green. The color itself holds an incredible range of shades, whether applied in its purest form or mixed with water or white paint. This simple expression is quite unique, and the many details and layers interact beautifully in all their simplicity.

Both my painting process and the finished expression of this piece represent my desire for more calm and softness in my everyday life, in my art, and in my life in general. I hope you can sense this as you explore the transparent surfaces and layers that give this painting its character.

The transparent layers in this painting have allowed for a calmer process than what I am used to. This is especially because the movement of the mediums across the canvas, and the drying time required to achieve the desired expression, demand a great deal of patience. It has required me to remain more still and passive in the process than I typically am with many of my other works.

The piece has been fixed with an invisible matte spray, which protects it against sunlight and dust.
